Plans to inaugurate the new Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister, Dr Kasirivu Kyamanywa and his cabinet into office have flopped.
Today , the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Chief Prince (Okwiri) Eng. Fred Mugenyi Ruchunya had vowed to officially inaugurate the new Prime Minister and his cabinet into office but the function has been suspended.
One of the new cabinet ministers who preferred anonymity told MK news link reporter via phone that he even slept in Hoima City in preparation of the inauguration but in vain.Instead, Okwiri called for a press conference at his home in which he announced that the new cabinet members started working long ago in their private offices despite not being in the official Kingdom offices.
Okwiri was however hesitant to reveal the next step and new dates of installing the new cabinet into the Kingdom offices.he has asked the reigning Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga to admit and leave office peacefully.
The press conference was attended by some of the new cabinet members including the interim speaker and Mr Denis Asiimwe who recently sued the Kingdom officials.
Unlike during the previous attempt, there was no heavy deployment at the Kingdom Headquarter. It should be remembered that the new cabinet was appointed by Okwiri in September this-year.
However, their appointment was denounced as unlawful by some of the Kingdom subjects, prompting a one Denis Asiimwe who hails from Masindi Municipality to drag the conflicting officials to Hoima High court.
Mr. Denis sued the reigning Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga, the Chief Prince Fred Ruchunya and the Kingdom’s Royal Commission Chairperson, Dr. Kaliisa Kabagambe. In his petition filed on 5th Sep. 2024, Denis wanted court to declare the appointment of the new cabinet as unlawful.
However, in a turn of events, Denis and Okwiri later entered a consent judgment with court, in which they anonymously agreed that the appointment of the new cabinet was lawful.
Following their consent, court on Monday this-week declared that the new Prime Minister and his cabinet are obliged to take-up their offices and conduct administrative duties.
However, in response, the reigning Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga disregarded the consent judgment as impartial and he has since vowed not to leave office.Since June this-year, Okwiri and some Babito clan leaders have been pushing for the resignation of Byakutaga claiming that his term ended on June 30th 2024.
However, Byakutaga insisted saying he was granted an open contract by Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru
