Bushenyi District Engineer Barnabas Mbonimpa Kiiza is under investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit over allegations of misappropriating government funds meant for various government projects.
Mbonimpa is accused of misappropriating UGX 339 million intended for constructing a playground at Kabushaho seed school and failing to account for UGX 1.5 billion allocated for road construction in the district.
This follows his arrest earlier this week by members of the Western Ankole Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) who handed him to Greater Bushenyi where he was later released on police bond.
Mariam Natasha Oduka the spokesperson state house anti-corruption unit confirmed that investigations into the matter have commenced.
Apollo Lee Kakonge, Executive Director of WACSOF, has called for a thorough and swift investigation to ensure accountability for the missing funds.
SP Martial Tumusiime, spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, stated that Mbonimpa remains under police investigation as authorities work to establish the full extent of the alleged embezzlement.
