The NRM leaders hailing from Fort Portal municipality Kabarole district and a section opposition members have opposed the amendment of article 102 (b) of the constitution in a bid to stop president Museveni participate in 2021 election.
This was during a grand rally held yesterday at Buhinga play ground in East division Fort-portal municipality. The article puts the age limit for presidential candidates at 75.
Led by the Fort Portal MP; Hon. Alex Ruhunda and woman MP Sylvia Rwabwogo, the members armed with placards reading: “Your time is over, Bakiga, Batooro, Banyoro and Ugandans at large, don’t touch article 102, defend the constitution of Uganda, it’s your time to go” among others.
The residents who were angrily speaking said that Ugandans should avoid being taken for granted by the ruling party, thus urging Museven to retire peacefully if he is to avoid being treated like the late col. Muama Gadafi of Libya.
The Bishop Fort Portal diocese ; Rt. Rev. Dr. Robert Muhirwa Akiiki who was among the present religious leaders encouraged Ugandans not to be intimidated thus follow their hearts.
Hon.Rwabwogo (the woman Mp Kabarole) gave her three reasons as to why she is not supporting the lifting age limit which they include political uncertainty, principles and basics peace in NRM and preventing bloodshed over transition of power which is likely to occur in case Museveni stays in power.
Alex Ruhunda Mp Fort portal municipality stated that after the 32 years in power, Museven still wants to shed blood again after forgetting what he said when he was acquiring power in 1986. “Museven came while condemning leaders who over stay in power but he is doing the reverse” Ruhunda asserted.
