Ntare school students staged a strike on sunday morning, targeting four colleagues accused of engaging in acts of homosexuality.
Saul Rwamporo, the school headteacher, said two of the accused managed to flee before angry students turned on the head prefect for allegedly withholding names of other suspected offenders, leaving one fleeing student injured while two others were rescued by school administrators.
Police were called in to restore order after the striking students smashed windows in several buildings, including the deputy headteacher’s office in charge of discipline and the staffroom.
Rwamporo noted that the school has been grappling with rising cases of homosexuality among students since 2023.
He added that investigations are ongoing, and for safety reasons the accused students will remain out of school until the situation stabilizes, after which disciplinary action will follow the findings.
