Christians of Kyanamira Church of Uganda Rwababa in Kyanamira Sub-county, Ndorwa East Constituency, Kabale District, have been left in shock after unknown thieves broke into the church and the lay reader’s house, stealing church property, including a sound system, books, mobile phones, and other valuables.
According to the lay reader of Kyanamira Church of Uganda, Kigata Parish in Kikungiri Archdeaconry, Paul Mbareeba, the incident occurred on Wednesday night at an unknown time. He said the suspects broke into the church and stole a keyboard, an amplifier, a mixer, and other sound equipment.
Mbareeba said that after stealing from the church, the thieves broke into his house, where they stole a mobile phone, a laptop bag, and other personal belongings.
He added that on Thursday morning, some of the stolen items, including baptism cards and notebooks, were recovered along the road leading from the church.
He expressed concern that the theft may have been carried out by a group of idle youths believed to be operating in the area, although no suspects have yet been identified.
Mbareeba said the matter was first reported to Kyanamira Police Station before being referred to Kabale Central Police Station. The case was registered under reference number KAB/SD/REF/03/30/07/2026.
Meanwhile, Andrew Baseensa, the headteacher of Rwababa Primary School and a member of the church, attributed the increasing cases of theft in the community to widespread school dropout, unemployment, and idleness among young people.
He said many youths are unwilling to work and instead spend much of their time drinking alcohol.
The Male District Councilor representing Kyanamira Sub-county, Joshua Musinguzi, said it is unfortunate that people have reached the extent of stealing from places of worship, noting that many no longer fear God.
Musinguzi urged parents to take their children back to school to help keep them away from crime and to raise them as responsible, God-fearing citizens.
