In Kazo—
Police in Kazo District have arrested five suspects following a deadly overnight attack that claimed the life of a Senior Four student and left another seriously injured at their home in Nyarubanga Cell, Bwagonga Parish.
The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, September 4, 2026, when unidentified assailants reportedly attacked the two students at their family home.
The deceased was identified as Catherine Nimusiima, a Senior Four student at Premier High School Kanoni. Her fellow student, Musimenta Sylvia, survived the attack but sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kagongo Hospital in Ibanda Municipality for treatment.
The attack reportedly occurred while the students’ mother was away attending overnight prayers at a church in Kidandari Trading Centre.
According to Gideon Kibeherere, the Nyarubanga Village Chairperson, the attack may be connected to a longstanding land dispute involving the students’ parents.
Kibeherere said the family had previously been involved in disagreements over land, raising concerns that the dispute could have played a role in the attack.
However, police have not yet confirmed the motive and say investigations are still underway.
Michael Akaturinda, the Kazo District Police Commander, has appealed to residents with information about the incident to come forward and assist investigators.
Akaturinda urged members of the public to cooperate with police to help establish what happened, identify those responsible and ensure that Catherine’s death does not go unanswered.
The latest incident comes barely a week after three children were killed in Kajuzya Village, Nkungu Sub-County, Kazo District, on August 30, 2026.
The children; Akankwatsa Catherine, 14, Grace, 13, and Arinaitwe Deus, 10 — were killed while their parents were reportedly away searching for work because of financial difficulties.
A three-year-old boy was also found injured in that attack. Police transported the bodies of the deceased children to Ruhoko Health Centre.
