I WILL NOT ALLOW GOVT TO SPLIT KASESE INTO OTHER DISTRICTS—RWENZURURU KING

Rwenzururu King, Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma has asked the
elected political leaders to be pro-people and work for them
regardless of their political affiliations.
The Omusinga said this yesterday at Kinyamaseke primary school
playground in Kinyamaseke town board of Munkunyu sub-county in Kasese
district during his familiarization tour in the area.
The Omusinga said that personally he likes working with leaders who
serve according to the people’s interests, appealing to the newly
elected leaders to serve all the people equally.
He commended the people of Munkunyu sub-county for having lived
peacefully and in harmony regardless of the various tribes in the
area.
Munkunyu sub-county is comprised mainly of three tribes including the
Bakonzo, Banyabindi and the Busongora.
The Omusinga said that the Rwenzururu Kingdom recognizes all the
tribes in the region and the subjects are willing to stay peacefully
with everyone so long as he/she has shown respect for the Kingdom.
On the issue of splitting Kasese district, the Omusinga asked the
people whether they were interested and in unison opposed the idea.
The Omusinga then attributed the issue of the split of the district to
what he described as political losers and retired servants.
He noted that the logic behind the split was to disorganize the
Kingdom and the current political leaders, adding that the proposed
boundaries were unclear.
He also described the idea as controversial which he said needed a
referendum for the people to decide.
Bukonzo East Member of Parliament, Harold Tonny Muhindo appreciated
the efforts of the Rwenzururu King towards the promotion and
restoration of peace and unity in the region and for having been
instrumental in comforting the families that lost their dear ones
during the post election violence that befell the district.
He reported to the King that the people in Bukonzo East were not
comfortable with the idea of splitting the district, adding that as
Members of Parliament from the district, they would stand firm in
parliament to oppose the idea.
The Acting Prime Minister of Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu, the Rt. Hon.
Johnson Thembo Kitsumbire appealed to the Members of parliament from
the district to instead advocate for the rehabilitation of
Kampala-Kasese railway, the airport and an international irrigation
scheme other than splitting the district.
