TEACHERS ARE IMPREGNATING SCHOOL GIRLS—POPULATION SECRETARIAT OFFICIAL
By Elly Karenzi
In Ibanda—
The programs officer for the National population Secretariat Ms. Hope Nzaire has called upon parents, teachers and senior women in Ibanda district to empower the girl child with sex education.
She made these remarks during a community sensitization and mobilization to enable Kicuzi sub-county in Ibanda district to boost from a dormant to a developing area.
Ms. Hope Nzaire said that Abstinence-Only-Until-Marriage Programs, sometimes called Sexual Risk Avoidance Programs, teach abstinence as the only morally correct option of sexual expression for teenagers.
Hope said that most of the teachers have impregnated girl child in favor of giving them marks in class tests even though a pupil/student is not performing well. On the side of parents, she said that parents have neglected their girls when they go for monthly menstruation periods.
It has been discovered that in Kicuzi sub-county and other rural areas, when girls go for monthly menstruation periods, due to lack of sanitary pads, the girls use rugs provided by their mothers from their old closes and banana leaves to stop to bleeding while in monthly periods, She said that sex education does not mean that children will be taught
on how to play sex but will get knowledge on how they should behave as one way of avoiding early pregnancies.
