RUKUNGIRI FARMERS DECRY INCREASED FOOD THEFT

Farmers in Rukungiri district have decried of the increased cases of theft of their gardens and stores that has increased poverty and famine among their households.
Farmers attributed rampant cases of theft to alcoholism, gambling and redundancy among youth within the district.
“Our gardens, animals stolen and food stores are broken by thieves
every night thus a hindrance to food security one of the farmers told www.mknewslink.com
This was revealed on Friday09/2/2017 during the launch and sensitization of heads of 3o farmers groups within the district organized by the district in conjunction with RUGADA on organic farming practice held at the district headquarters.
The deputy RDC Rukungiri Mrs. Justine Muhindo Mutabazi called upon the farmers to remain watchful and always take thieves courts of law.
The Rukungiri woman member of parliament Hon. Winfred Matsiko in her remarks asked farmers to improve their farming systems, avoid reclaiming of swamps learn good management of their lands if they are to have food security in their homesteads.
“Working with extension workers at your sub counties will help you to
acquire more knowledge to deal with agriculture and will help you to
increase on your produces” Masiko told the farmers.
