WEST ANKOLE DIOCESE AGAIN: BISHOP JOHNSON DEMOTES VOCAL ARCHDEACON MURUNGI
By Wilber Muhwezi-Kasibante
In Bushenyi—
The bishop of west Ankole diocese in western Uganda has demoted a vocal archdeacon Rev. Canon Murungi to a mere parish priest.
Canon Mulungi has been on forced leave since December 2017. According to sources, Murungi had rejected a transfer from Kyabugimbi archdeaconry to Rweibare in Sheema because of the threats from Christians in Sheema. He begged the bishop to take him to another church outside Sheema but he instead subjected him to a forced leave.
According to west Ankole communications and information officer, Mr. Zadock Amanyisa, the demotion of Murungi can only be explained by the appointing authority who is Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni.
Efforts to get the Bishop’s comment were futile as he could not answer our calls neither our whatsapp messages.
Rev. Can. Murungi who was posted to Bitooma parish in Igara west told www.mknewslink.com editor on phone that for him its okay he can be at parish but his major problem was serving to any Sheema district church.
“The Sheema Christians committed themselves by putting their threats in writing. I had a video where they wanted to kill me in Bugongi archdeaconry” Murungi told this editor on phone yesterday evening.
On his demotion, Murungi said that its God who appoints and transfers. This is the second archdeacon to be demoted by Bishop Johnson in his only eight months in office. The first one was Rev. can. Kamwerinde formerly archdeacon of Ryakasinga and now parish priest of Bumbaire and then Murungi.
