ASIAN INVESTOR THREATENS TO EVICT SCHOOLS, CHURCHES IN NAKASEKE

In Nakaseke–

An Asian investor is threatening to demolish two schools and churches
in Katokye trading centre of Wachato trading centre of Nakaseke
district.

Nazim Shiviji has expressed his threat in letters he has written to
Bright future primary school, St. Luke church of Uganda,
Wakayamba primary school and Wakayamba Pentecostal church.

Wakayamba School is government aided and also is said to be having
compassion projects which support bright but poor pupils to further
their education.
Wakayamba has existed on that land together with the church for over
20 years and have over 3 permanent blocks and a church, according to
Hadijah Namwanja; the chairperson LCI of Wakayamba and Pastor Ronald Lokiko.
Namwanja who appeals to the president for help to stop the planned
demolition and eviction of both the school and church is on the school
management committee.

She said though a Muslim the school and church are the community’s
development projects in which their children have studied.
“This school is not sectarian and we contribute to develop the
school and my son has studied here and now works in Kampala in a bank, we shall not just allow the investor to demolish these projects,” she stated.

The director and founder of Bright future Primary school and St. Luke
church of Uganda Fred Nsamba said they would not allow the investor to demolish their investments.
Mwesigye Sam the former LC3 chairman of Wachato Sub County said
government should quickly come in to help the locals who are being
molested by the Asian investor.

“ Nazim as opposed to elder brother the deceased Amin is ruthless, but
how is he going implement his farming projects by clashing with
locals?, he wondered.

the two schools have a population of over 3000 pupils. St. Luke claims
to own 3 acres of land while Wakayamba 5 acres of land.

In letters written by Lillian Agupara as the company secretary and CEO
for Kyampisisi Estates Ltd/ AMFRI Farms she has give the two schools
and churches up to this month of March to have removed their strictures or prepare to face further action.

Nazim who is the Managing director of Kyampisisi Estates Ltd/ AMFRI
Farms maintains that the structures; schools and churches are
illegally on his land.

Nazim who owns over a square mile of land in the area took over from
his brother Amin Shiviji who died sometime back. The locals claim he
(Amin) had given them land to establish the schools and places of
worship and lived happily with them but did not give them documents.

About three years ago Nazim evicted over 40 families from the same
area where the schools and places of worship are but relocated them to
his other land on 20 acres where he now wants to evict them.

The Nakaseke LC5 boss Ignatius Komu said he had halted the plans to
evict the two schools and churches and had summoned Nazim and the
affected people to his office for a meeting Thursday this week.
