IN BUSHENYI
Residents of Bunyarigyi ward a presidential model parish in Bushenyi –ishaka municipality, Bushenyi district have asserted that they don’t want president Yoweri Museveni to support and participate in the amendment of the constitution to remove the presidential age limit of 75 years to infinity.
The residents made this revelation yesterday Aug. 27, 2016 at their ward headquarters during the launch of ‘leave no one behind dialogue’ by Uganda national NGO forum.
The presidential age limit issue came in after the participants at the meeting were divided by the chief facilitator and executive director of Uganda national NGO forum Mr. Richard Ssewakiryanga into groups according to age, sex and physical capability.
While presenting their group reports on what kind ward/Uganda would they want to live in?, men between the age of 30 to 55, led by the chairman LC1 Rweibare village Mr. Joseph Tibayungwa and women of the same age bracket noted that the presidential age limit must be respected and should not be removed from the Ugandan constitution.
“For us we are categorical on the presidential age limit. Despite the fact that our ward is a presidential model ward and we have benefited a lot from the president but we can’t support him to remove age limit and contest again for president” Tibayungwa told www.mknewslink.com news website after the meeting.
The utterances by the residents of Bunyarigyi model parish/ward come when parliament tabled this week a constitutional amendment to increase the retirement age of judges. During NTV’s interview with the mover of the private members bill Robert Kafeero, he noted that during the discussion, the members can add in the removal of presidential age limit.
President Museveni is currently 72 years and by 2021, he will be 77 years and hence not eligible to contest for a six term.
The Uganda national NGO forum boss on the other hand took through participants at the meeting in the 17 sustainable development goals which were launched by the UN assembly in Sept 2015.
Mr. Ssewakiryanga said that SDG 16 calls for peace and justice amongst people and countries all over the world, he called upon Ugandans to resist torture and even organize themselves and force out people like IGP Kayihura who are masterminding torture of innocent Ugandans.
