The former Bukanga MP Seat aspirant and NRM Chairman for Endinzi Sub County in Bukanga County Aaaron Turahi has quit the NRM on grounds of what he called injustice and discrimination within the Party.
The decision came on Saturday; after he lost in the NRM primaries for the Endinzi Town Council Mayoral race describing the polls as a total sham- marred with vote rigging, intimidation of voters and voter bribery though the NRM leadership in Isingiro district refuted the allegations.
Turahi- who describes himself as an open minded NRM Member announced his decision to defect from the ruling party to the FDC party on Sunday morning.
According to Turahi, there are people within the NRM Party who think they are more important than others and have stepped on many other members in the district. “Such people believe they have the money and the power to influence things and silence others. This has pushed many members to the periphery, deepened intrigue and divisions within the party”, he explained.
This is not the first time he is complaining of injustice within the party but in the past instances, he did not leave the party. It remains to be seen whether he will contest for the Endinzi Mayoral Seat as an Independent.
This development comes at a time when the NRM Party is healing from a loss to FDC in the Rukungiri Woman MP by-election but also the party is grappling with divisions in its ranks. While responding to the Rukungiri loss, the Party Chairman President Yoweri Museveni among others factors blamed disunity within the party for the humiliating defeat in Rukiga Sub-region.
Turahi’s defection to FDC’s is the second in the region following the former Rwampara County Mp Vincent Mujuni Kyamadidi who is still in custody over voter bribery.
