MAN WHO PREPARED HIMSELF GRAVE YARD, COFFIN IN 2002 FINALLY DIES

People from all walks of life yesterday thronged Kasoga village in Ndekye, Rubirizi district to attend a descent send-off of an eighty four year old man who prepared a grave yard and coffin for himself sixteen years ago.
Kyotera Gabriel whose decision earned him fame in 1989 developed a spinal cord complication which made him remain paralyzed for twenty nine years.
His younger brother Atwine George said that judging the worrying condition he was going through he invited clan members and requested them to give him descent burial when he dies.
He suggested constructing his own grave after they told him that they would not manage and construction work began in 2002 when he started getting weak and his wealth reducing as well.
Atwine further said that the decision to buy and keep coffin in the house and construct a grave when a person is still living first shocked them but were counseled after consulting religious leaders and elders
He said although they promise to maintain the grave very well they may not accord this kind of descent burial to any other member of the family in future.
Silvester Agumanshongorera his in-law and area district chairman said that this kind of arrangement is purely an insurance scheme and called on people who are unable to join insurance companies that can cover ones burial ceremony to rather prepare for their final send-off before die to avoid leaving a burden to people.
His children who praised their father for educating them warned relatives against making any attempts to try and divide them.
Unlike other funerals where few people would reach the grave this time round everybody was struggling to enter the small house built around the grave in order to have a glimpse at grave prepared sixteen years back.
Late Kyotera Gabriel who survived by a widow and nine children was born in 1934 at Bicumbi landing site in then Congo now DRC where his parents (late Ibrahim Karakura) in 1939 migrated and first settled at Katwe landing site in Kasese district and later on in 1940 they again migrated to Kasoga in Ndekye Bunyaruguru in the present Rubirizi district.
