CASE DELAYS WORRY BUSHENYI COURT USERS, WANT MORE STATE ATTORNEYS

Greater Bushenyi court users have voiced frustration over delayed case

verdicts and single resident state attorney.
Currently, high Court judge, and grade one magistrate are handling
civil and criminal cases but are over-stretched by the number of cases
compared to the resident state attorney to handle prosecutions which
impacts on their effectiveness.
Court users have attributed the current case backlog and adjournments
on what they describe as staffing shortage at the station.
They have asked the chief justice Bart M. Katureebe to recruit more
resident state attorneys to address the current staffing shortages
since a single resident state attorney cannot handle all cases before
presiding judges at ago.
Sikorasitika Mwebaze, one of the court users says she was on Tuesday
angered with the delay of court procession as the presiding judge kept informing them to wait for the resident state attorney who was
handling other prosecutions before other magistrate.
During the court Open Day organized by the Bushenyi Chief Magistrates
Court on Monday, June 25, 2018, the Chief Justice, Justice Bart M. Katureebe directed high Court judge, registrars and magistrates at
different ranks to deliver pending judgments and clear backlog cases.
Katurebe noted that little resources are allocated to the judiciary
though they have a lot of work to accomplish a fact that delays cases
in courts.
Mwebaze has called upon government to devise means to have resident
state attorney than spending a lot of money in politics.
