MBARARA COURT ADJOURNS BESIGYE, AMURIAT CASES

Hearing of criminal cases where former Presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye together with Patrick Amuriat  the FDC party President and Ingrid Turinawe the Party  Secretary for Mobilization as well as Kawempe North MP Mubarak Munyagwa are accused of assault , inciting violence, and malicious damage did not take place at Grade one magistrate court in Mbarara town.

The four politicians including one Fred Kato, Besigye’s driver, allegedly committed the offences as they moved in a procession through Mbarara town on 14^th November 2017 to hold a campaign rally for Patrick Amuriat at Kakyeka stadium. He was then contesting for FDC party presidency with Major Gen Mugisha Muntu, Moses Byamugisha  and Dan Matsiko.

They were arrested and taken to court but grade one magistrate Sanyu Mukasa granted them bail. Hearing of criminal cases against them was supposed to commence today but the state witnesses did not turn up and this forced the defence lawyer Erias Lukwago to ask court to discharge his clients urging that there is no proof indicating that state indeed had summoned the witnesses to give evidence the accused persons.

But the trial Magistrate Sanyu Mukasa adjourned the case to 19^th October in order to give ample time for both parties to be ready for the court hearing session.

Dr Besigye later told Journalists that the government’s intention is to undermine their finances, keep them away from their work and harass them as well. He warned that if judicial officials continue behaving the same way they will also decide not to come to court unless arrested.

He added that such attempts will never distract them from their legitimate struggle to challenge and remove what he called bad a Government.
