Bushenyi district Education Officer;Saulo Rwampororo has challenged ministry of education to abolish Uganda National Examinations Board(UNEB) arguing that the body has failed to improve education standards.
Speaking at a three day sensitization workshop organized by ministry of education at UTC—Busenyi yesterday,Rwampororo said that if he were the president or minister of education, he would have abolished the UNEB.
He said it is neither fair nor intellectual for students who have studied for four years to be examined for only two hours to determine their qualification.
Rwampororo suggested that the UNEB should also put into consideration the performance of students from senior One up to senior Four.
He added that due to the UNEB’s incompetence, students only concentrate on passing examinations other than monthly tests thus an increase in exam malpractices.
However,Frederick Mutyama, the commissioner in charge of planning and policy in ministry of education to Rwampororo to bring ideas to reform UNEB instead of abolishing it.He added that if reforms can be made, the UNEB can perform better.
