ABSA BANK PARTNERS WITH BISHOP STUART UNIVERSITY TO PLANT 500 TREES

Bishop Stuart University with support from Absa Bank Uganda limited is to plant 500 trees in a campaign aimed at restoring the green environment.
Speaking during the launch of the campaign at Bishop Stuart University on Monday,the university vice chancellor, Associate Prof.Gershom Atukunda commended the bank for it’s cooperate social responsibility aimed at saving the environment.
He requested different partners to contribute tree seedling to the good cause and commended Absa Bank for contributing the first 500 trees.
On his part, Mr.Nicholas Turyamuhaki the Absa Branch Manager Mbarara, said the Bank is committed to providing one million tree seedlings across the country, adding that they will have planted 300,000 trees by the end of this year.
Mr.Albert Byaruhanga the Absa Bank Business Banking Director expressed gratitude to Bishop Stuart University(BSU) for partnering with Absa Bank Uganda limited in the tree planting exercise thus highlighted the importance of a collective action in safeguarding the environment.
Mr.Byaruhanga said the initiative aims at to demonstrate the Institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Mr Byaruhanga further revealed Absa Bank’s plan to plant 1 million trees over the next three years under it’s environmental sustainability efforts in their citizenship agenda. This initiative aims to mitigate climate change, reduce air pollution, and enhance the well being of communities while preserving Uganda’s natural Environment.
According to the National Forestry Authority(NFA), Uganda’s forest cover stands at about 1.9 million hectares , which is 10% of Uganda’s land cover area. The forests comprise both natural and established plantations. Natural forests include both the tropical high forests and other naturally wooded land that falls within the definition of forest.
