ABSENTEEISM AFFECTING HEALTH SERVICE DELIVERY IN RUKIGA-CAO
By Allan Mugabe
In Rukiga
Leaders in Rukiga
district have blamed the poor health service
delivery in the district to absenteeism and late coming of
health
workers.
The leaders said this
yesterday while speaking during the district
council session that was held at the district council hall in
Mparo
town council in Rukiga district.
The Rukiga District
Chairperson Alexander Kampikaho said that he has
received several complaints from the public that whenever
they visit
health facilities seeking for medical services, there are few
or no
health workers to attend to them or sometimes the facilities
are found
closed.
Kampikaho said that
in the last two weeks when they visited the facilities in the district,
they found that at Kafunjo health Centre
II in Bucundura parish Kashambya Sub County, the
health workers had closed the facility for five
days. At Rwenyangye health
Centre II in Kamwezi Sub County also the facility was open but there were no health workers to attend to the
patients.
The Rukiga District
secretary for health Brenda Ainembabazi and the
Rukiga district chairperson Education, Health and Community
based
services Eddy Mugisha said that during the visit, they
observed that
the health workers come late in the morning, open the facility
and go
back home without attending to the patients.
The Rukiga District
Chief Administrative Officer Fredrick Ssemogerere
asserted that they have already written to the health workers
who were
found not on duty by the time the district leaders visited
the facilities
so that they can explain where they were are.
He added that those who will be found guilty for absconding from duty
will be disciplined.
