ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE OF STUDENT IN RUKUNGIRI

Police in Rukungiri are investigating a hit and run fatal road accident involving motor vehicle registration no UAA 920 Y Toyota land cruiser yellow in color and motorcycle reg no UFL 071 Y Bajaj boxer red in color.

Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesman says the accident occurred at around 7:00 PM on the   17/04/2022   at Kihunga Nyamayenje village along Rukungiri Ntungamo highway.

The driver of the land cruiser reportedly knocked the motorcyclist from behind and injured the two passengers and the rider.

One passenger by the names of Gumoshabe Ian 20   a student of Kagunga S.S and resident of Rwakabengo A” Rwakabengo parish Rukungiri municipality died after admission at Nyakibale hospital.

The rider and one other passenger are still admitted at the same medical facility in a serious condition.

Maate says the front number plate of the vehicle which caused the accident, dropped off but the  driver did not stop.

Police visited the scene, the body was conveyed to Rwakabengo health centre111 for postmortem, and the Motorcycle involved is parked at Rukungiri police yard pending inspection.

Maate says Inquiries, as well as efforts to trace for the vehicle, are ongoing.
