Local leaders have been tipped to supervise and report rampant cases of drug and sexually abuses in communities in a bid to monitor, evaluate and interface budget framework at all levels.
The appeal was raised by Zakaria Bukikyire Rwankore the chairpersons’ leader of Central division in Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality during a stakeholders Budget interface meeting convened by West Ankole Civil society at St Kagwa boarding primary school on Thursday 2nd July 2020
Zakaria said that there are increased cases of gambling and drug abuses among school going children as a result of redundancy at home having spent longer holiday due to COVID 19.
Apollo Lee Kakonge the West Ankole Civil society Forum CEO said that the budget dialogue aimed at looking into issues affecting local communities most especially in healthy and education sectors.
He added that he is disappointed with the ministry of education after it failed to give learning materials to children who are currently locked down in their homes due to COVID 19.
He cited out an example of Bushenyi Ishaka municipality which the ministry refused to supply with learning materials on ground that it is urban centered thus children should download the materials forgetting that the majority cannot afford to do so.
He expressed concern over lack of toilets, staff and other essential requirements at municipal Health Centre II and III ,challenges which are affecting communities.
