Canon Mary Karoro Okurut, the minister for general duties in the office of the prime minister who is also the Woman MP Bushenyi district welcomed the court ruling that was made on Thursday by Uganda’s top court.
The court ruling paved the way for the country’s 74-year-old President Yoweri Museveni to seek a sixth term in office, upholding a ruling to scrap presidential age limits.
Karooro was yesterday addressing journalists at her home in Katungu cell Nyakabirizi division Bushenyi Ishaka municipality.
The Supreme Court dismissed a challenge by Museveni’s opponents, who had appealed against a constitutional court ruling that removed an age cap of 75 for presidential contenders.
The minister who recently equated president Museveni to a comet congratulated him and the people of Uganda saying that she is extremely happy that justice was delivered.
Karooro said that Ugandans should not forget that this country was liberated by people who sacrificed their lives and so they should be respected and supported.
The ruling however sparked protests and an outcry from the opposition, which gave green light to president Museveni to rule for life.
Buhweju Mp Francis Mwijukye also the minister in the peoples government that was recently formed by Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye however said that the court ruling was a disappointment and equated the chief justice Bart Katurebe to Juda Iscariot.
He asked journalists to stop reporting only what the ruling government and opposition has said but also join the struggle to reclaim the power that was denied in 2016.
