In Bushenyi—
The deputy head of mission Benelux countries and the European union in Brussels, Amb. Franklin Katungwe has criticized the law made by the parliament of Uganda to allow 18 year old youths to contest for president and Member of Parliament.
Amb. Katungwe noted that MPs erred by reducing age for some one to contest for president and MP from 35 years to 18 years old.
He said this today Oct. 14, 2020 at his home in Kyeitembe Bushenyi district in an exclusive interview with www.mknewslink.com managing editor.
He noted that for someone to contest for president must have worked somewhere with experience but a young student in advance level.
He added that removing the upper age limit for president by MPs was correct but the lower age limit of 18 was bad enough.
Amb. Katungwe also said that these young people lead without experience and therefore when you give them a country it can be dangerous.
He advised MPs to revisit the same act and amend it for president and mp contestants to have 35 years of age and above.
He noted that there are various seats for youths; youth councilor, chairman NRM youth organs advising the youths to take part in those elections but leave other politics to older people.
