ANKOLE LCIII CHAIRPERSONS TASK GOV’T FOR GUNS

Sub county Chairpersons and Town Council Mayors in Ankole Region under their Umbrella Uganda lower local Councils association Ankole chapter have tasked the Government to give them fire arms.
The leaders say that the guns will help them monitor security operations in their areas of jurisdiction.
During their meeting held on Tuesday at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara city Sub county, Chairpersons led by the umbrella chairman Fred Mwebembezi resolved that as the heads of security in Sub counties, they should be facilitated with a security training in Kyankwanzi before being given fire arms to monitor security situation in their Sub counties.
“As people in charge of security of our Sub counties, Government should give us fire arms to keep our Sub counties safe,” Mwebembezi added.
Taremwa Fred the general Secretary Uganda Lower Councils Association, Ankole Chapter who is also the chairperson Kabingo Sub county in Isingiro District in his submission revealed that as Sub county Chairpersons they find it complicated to uproot criminal offences without guns.
He added that there is no way a Sub county Chairpersons will direct officers in charge of police stations, Local Defense Unit commanders and GISOs to monitor security situations when them(Chairpersons), their immediate supervisors are not armed.
In the same meeting , Chairpersons under their Umbrella Uganda lower local councils Association chose new leadership where Fred Mwebembezi the Chairman Kashare Subcounty’ in Mbarara District was elected the umbrella Chairman ,Eldard Mwesigye the Chairman Kasaana Sub county in Sheema District elected the umbrella vice chairperson , Taremwa Fred the Chairman Kabingo Sub county in Isingiro District elected the umbrella General Secretary and Mugabe Hassan elected the Umbrella publicity secretary among others .
