ANTI CORRUPTION UNIT ARRESTS SEVEN MBARARA DISTRICT OFFICIALS OVER PUBLIC LAND GRABBING

The state House Anti Corruption Unit yesterday arrested seven Mbarara district officials over public land grabbing.
According to Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema, Anti Corruption Unit which was recently launched by President Museveni was in Mbarara following whistle blowers complaints that included grabbing of public land and shoddy work of the district and municipality infrastructure.
The arrested include Cuthbert Felix Esoku the Chief Administration Officer, Julius Lucky the Physical Planner, Gerald Muhinda the district staff surveyor, Godlive Nayebare, district Lands officer,
Others are Johnson Tusiimireyo the proposed satellite city project manager, Sabbath Barijja the municipality engineer, while Charles Ngabirano the Rwampara County legislator was directed to report to the Unit’s office on Monday.
Their arrest came after they failed to clearly explain the allegations leveled against them, concerning grabbing of different plots at Kamukuzi hill during the meeting held at the district council hall
Speaking to Journalists after the meeting Lt. Col. Nakalema said that the arrested have been handed over to police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to help in investigations.
She called upon the public not to be intimidated, but rather come up and report all those errant government officials, who involve themselves in corruption.
