ARCH RIVALS JIM MUHWEZI, MP MARY PAULA FINALLY RECONCILE

Rukungiri National Resistance Movement (NRM), on Tuesday 17th converged at Hotel Riverside in Rukungiri Municipality to dialogue, reconcile and chart the way forward for the party ahead of 2020/2021 elections.
The meeting was convened by the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs Francis Batinti together with Elder Canon Justus Rwabugaire.
In the meeting, former Rujumbura County MP Maj. Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi reconciled with the Rubabo County legislator Hon Mary Paula Turyahikayo whom they havent been on good terms since the 2016 elections after they accused each other of undermining themselves politically by supporting their opponents.
Mr Batinti told www.mknewslink.com that as NRM party leaders they became concerned about the party divisionism in Rukungiri District which was costing it support.
Mr. Batinti added that Rukungiri District which was once an NRM stronghold was slowly falling into opposition hands thus a need to have the vice curtailed and situation brought back to normal.
“We at one time had only NRM Members of Parliament in the entire district including the majority Councilors in the District Council but currently, we only have the Rubabo county legislator and scores of councilors in the district Council and this is not good for the party development band survival” Mr Batinti said.
Batinti said that the meeting of NRM Leaders and Elders was timely basically at a time when the country is preparing for the 2021 general elections.
Maj. Gen Jim Muhwezi who doubles as the Rukungiri district NRM chairperson noted that it was really a strong milestone in sorting out their differences which have been on for years now.
Mr. Muhwezi pledged total commitment of working together with Hon. Paula for the good of the party not only in the district but even countrywide.
On her part, Hon Mary Paula Turyahikayo hailed the organizers of this reconciliatory meeting and pledged to unite the once divided party members so that they can regain their lost glory.
