Kisoro municipal authorities are determined to see off street vendors plying their business along Kisoro-Bunagana highway effective tomorrow Tuesday 21st February.
The Kisoro municipality Mayor, Ndyana Richard, has confirmed this today. Affected vendors include those at Kisoro hospital, Kumudenge and those at old market to centenary bank.
He says that there has been a series of complaints from the ministry of trade, Kisoro district roads committee and tourists over street vendors being close to main roads which attracts accidents and garbage in the municipality.
Ndyana noted that street vendors mainly dealing in selling fruits should relocate to the available markets including old market, Rusiza Market and new market.
He also revealed that the municipality will immediately embark on cleaning the municipality once vendors are relocated.
He added that there will be no fear or favor during enforcement because the whole district is in support for the municipality’s direction to gain a tourism city status.
In response, the chairperson for Kisoro vendors Nizeyimana Silas said that vendors are not ready to quit their locations until the municipality finds them an isolated area where they can work.
He added that other markets are disorganized and have a mixture of goods sold in them.
