AWU ELECTS GUILD PRESIDENT, SUPPORTERS CHANT PEOPLE POWER OUR POWER

Ezra Rugasira was on Saturday 17, declared a winner of highly contested election for guild president at Ankole western university 2018/19.
Ezra polled 317 votes against his opponent Benson Beinomugisha who got 259 votes.
After declaring the winner, Rugasira’s supporters lifted him and matched up to all saints church Kabwohe to thank God and Rev Karuhanga Gordon blessed them.
Later, they all headed to ICOBI chanting “people power, our power” but they stopped along the way after being tipped that ICOBI workers were well prepared to beat them.
Ezra supporters emphasized that minister for science innovation and technology Dr Elioda Tumwesigye had given extra financial support to their opponent Benson Beinomugisha.It is alleged that Beinomugisha is an employee at ICOBI.
Akunda Rabecca chairperson electoral commission at AWU said that the voting exercise started peacefully however there erupted confusion at around 2:40 pm between the supporters after a student was refused to vote.
“one student came without any identity, when we refused him to vote, exchange of words erupted but we handled the situation,” Rabecca
Only 577 students participated in voting and only one vote was invalid.
