Bamugemereire land commission stays eviction in Masindi
The Bamugemereire Land Commission has issued a directive staying the
eviction of the people of Myeba-Nyakarongo Village in Kimengo
Sub-county, Masindi District from the disputed land.
The directive to stay the impending eviction is contained in a letter
dated 5th this month signed by the secretary to the commission, Oliver
Kazaarwe Mukwaya.
According to the letter addressed to the Executive Director Uganda
Investment Authority, Masindi Resident District Commissioner and the
Masindi District Police Commander, the Authority has been ordered to
stay the eviction of the residents from the land following claims of
ownership by both residents and Critical Mass Growth-a Kenyan company.
The authorities have also been ordered neither to sale, mortgage,
lease nor subdivide the disputed land until the commission concludes
its investigations.
The letter is copied to the Albertine Regional Police Commander, the
Mayor of Masindi Municipality, the manager Critical Mass Growth and
the Myeba/ Nyakarongo village chairperson.
Residents of Myeba/Nyakarongo are in a land dispute owned by Uganda
Investment Authority which purchased it from Bunyoro Grower’s
Cooperative Union and in turn subleased the disputed land to Critical
Mass Growth.
