The hereditary chiefs of Busongora have impeached their cultural head Apollo Bwebale and replaced him with Imara Dan Kashagama Ndahura II.
During a prompt meeting on Saturday at Kasese municipality hall, all the seven hereditary chiefs voted in support of the motion to impeach Apollo Bwebale who was accused of abandoning his cultural roles and mistrust.
James Bwebale the uncle to Apollo Bwebale moved the motion to impeach Apollo on the grounds of mistrust and lack of vision for the cultural institution.
James Kiiza; the hereditary chief of Abachwezi clan said that the decision to have Apollo impeached was taken after several engagements with him reminding him of his duties.
“Before electing him to be the cultural head to replace his late father Rutakirwa Ivan Rwigirwabo we asked him if he was ready to work with us and support the cultural institution and he agreed but he has refused to resign from his duty as the Resident District commissioner for Kyenjojo and for that reason we have vowed never to work with him again.
Eric Kafuda; the 2nddeputy prime minister urged the people to support Kashagama in developing the cultural institution.
“We cannot work with a person who is not after the promotion of our culture we need to progress he must hand over power with immediate effect we have already crowned a new cultural leader,”Kafuda said.
Kafuda asked the new cultural leader to immediately appoint a new cabinet comprising of the youth to take over the cultural institution.
Kashagama said that the ministry of gender had already linked the cultural institution to UNESCO and that they are working on modalities on how to preserve the culture of the minority Basongora.
