The family of the late Bishop Shalita Kosia is seeking justice in a land dispute in Nyabushozi, urging President Museveni to intervene. The dispute involves land in Omukyeera, Kimomo, Kikatsi sub-county, Kiruhura district, which multiple court rulings have confirmed belongs to the Shalita family. However, the Kajundira family has allegedly attempted to seize the land violently.
Lindicy Olive Musominari, daughter of Bishop Shalita, says they have been embroiled in this dispute for a long time. She states that her father left them approximately 640 acres of land in Nyabushozi. Despite winning numerous legal battles affirming their ownership, they have faced demolitions and loss of lives.
In March 1992, the Kajundira family, led by Geoffrey Kajundira, invaded their land with weapons and forcefully evicted the Shalita family. Trespassing has continued despite the attorney general affirming the Shalita family’s ownership. Although the Kajundira family was evicted in 1997, the Shalita family has secured eight court judgments in their favor since then.
The Shalita family is now calling on President Museveni to enforce justice, stating that justice delayed is justice denied. They appeal to the president to help them reclaim their land and enjoy it in peace. Notably, in 2023, President Museveni ordered the police to settle the longstanding dispute by evicting the Kajundira family.
