BOBI WINE, MUSLIM CLERICS ON A NEW 16 MEN DEATH LIST
In Kampala—
Police are investigating the source of an anonymous death list that has names of political, religious and cultural leaders.
The list has 16 names including the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, titular head of the Kibuli Muslim sect Prince Kassim Nakibinge and Kibuli deputy mufti Sheikh Mahmudu Kibaate.
Others on the list include; Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga, Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa, Rubaga North MP Moses Kasibante, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Kampala Minister Beti Kamya among others.
The deputy police spokesperson Patrick Onyango and former Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraj Bakaleke are also on a list.
Kasibante told journalists that the list was dropped at his home by an unidentified person. He says that he informed the police about the matter.
However, Karuhanga who is receiving death threats for the second time says the lists are intended to intimidate them.
Karuhanga blamed police for failing to produce reports of previous cases of leaders receiving threats.
“For instance for those of us that have reported before, nothing has been done about them. That makes us think that probably the state knows what’s happening,” Karuhanga said.
However, police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima said precautionary measures will be undertaken to protect the people on the list and them to be cautious about their personal security.
In the recent past, several leaders including clerics, former Buyende police commander Muhammad Kirumira and former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga have been gunned down after receiving death threats.
