In Kampala—
President Yoweri Museveni narrated the details of the scuffle and the subsequent arrest of legislators by the SFC soldiers, during the election violence in Arua early this month.
Museveni told the NRM parliamentary caucus sitting last night at State House Entebbe that his convoy was stoned and that Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi and Zaake Francis of Mityana municipality were indeed beaten by the SFC soldiers. He said however that the MPs were provocative.
“I personally interviewed the soldiers who were involved in a scuffle with Bobi Wine and Francis Zaake. They responded with blows when my soldiers approached them after the attack on my convoy,” he said.
According to Museveni, after the attack on his convoy, SFC soldiers went to the hotel where the team of Arua Municipality MP-elect, Kassiano Wadri was residing.
Museveni says Zaake was found in his room and when one of the SFC soldiers approached him; the legislator “threw a blow” and had to be subdued.
For Bobi Wine, Museveni says the singer-turned politician was found “hiding” in the bathroom of the hotel and the former didn’t act any different from Zaake.
“He was not found on that day. He was only apprehended on the second day after a tip off from someone. They (soldiers) knocked his door and there was no response. The officers broke the door but didn’t find him in the room. The bathroom door was broken,” Museveni said.
When Bobi was found in the bathroom, Museveni says he started “punching” the SFC soldiers who beat him up.
Bobi Wine and Hon Zaake are slated to travel to London for medical treatment.
