BREAKING NEWS: POLICE HEAVILY DEPLOYED AT KIGEZI HIGH SCHOOL TO QUELL STUDENTS’ STRIKE

Anti riot police in Kabale district is heavily at Kigezi high school
to foil a sit down strike of students protesting the harassment by the
Deputy Head teacher and security guards.
The students, who refused to attend classes since yesterday, accuse
Deputy Head teacher academic affairs Edison Bakiga and SWAT security guards
of harassing them and arresting their colleagues without reasons.
They also claim that the students who paid for school uniform
140,000shillings since the term begun, they have never received
uniforms.
They also say that the school prepared for them porridge mixed with
ground nuts. They also say that the administration has abolished
cooking for them sweet potatoes every Friday. They also say that
since 2013, they have been paying 50,000shillings towards buying a
school pick-up, in vain.
According the school head boy Nixon Tayebwa says that students
have been raising the same issues for some time but the administration has
failed to address them in time.
The Kigezi high school head teacher Steven Mugume says that the
accusations raised by students on Bakiga and security guards are
baseless because the board of governors acknowledged the operations of
the two parties.
He also admitted that they dont prepare potatoes on every Friday, but due
to scarcity they have substituted it with rice. He also adds that he
does not any record of a pick-up but the money which was paid in 2013,
they administrators bought a bus.
By press time, police was still heavily deployed at the school led by
the field force commander Henry Kisembo.
