In Kampala–
The Mborogoma clan has accused Brig. Elly Kayanja; the operation wealth creation boss for grabbing and selling their cultural land which accommodates their cultural (Buganda) heritage.
The land which the Brig took over from Wasaka having been originally in the names of Kago J. M is at Luwadda in Matugga. It used to be the main palace of Buganda King Kintu.
According to the chairman of the Mporogoma clan Amb, Prof Badru Kateregga the land in Buganda for various clans was titled in the names of the clans heads but their clan head was in exile for some reason and ended up put in the names of Kago which was later taken over by Wasaka who later left it to Brig Kayanja.
Amb. Kateregga said that out of the land measuring 1 square mile and now they have headquarters of about two acres.
“We have followed up this land for some time when we discovered that its lease was due to expire we waited but we were recently surprised to discover that Kayanja had had its lease renewed and had transferred it to Njovu developers” he added.
He added that “every clan in Buganda has its heads quarters for us we don’t have someone; it alleged that Brig Kayanja grabbed our land and sold it.
We pray to the Ugandan government and the Buganda King Ronald Mutebi to help us recover our land and its cultural heritage and values”.
Amb. Kateregga said that at one time the Matugga land served as a sub headquarters for all the other clans of Buganda
He also accused some top Buganda Land Board officials for conniving with Brig Kayanja to allegedly steal their Matuggga land.
The chairman of Mporogoma clan said he will not be intimidated and will do what it takes to recover their land from Njovu developers. He said the developers had sub divided the land into hundreds of plots and they said it had been sold to them by Brig Kayanja.
Amb Kateregga said it’s dangerous for people to connive to steal and sell off Mporogoma clan head headquarters and that their spirits will as well fight the thieves.
It is said that one Wasaka who was an agriculturalist by then was managing a farm in that area when government did the mapping and titling for the clans heads in Buganda (1960-70s). It is said that at that time Brig Kayanja was Wasaka’s assistant. It was then possible later to process papers to take over that land.
It was futile to reach Brig Kayanja for a comment while the Minister of information and Kingdom spokesperson (Buganda Kingdom), Noah Kiyimba was not responding when we called on his phone.
