The Academic Registrar Bishop Stuart University Ariho Abdon Rutega has challenged the youth to be at the forefront of championing values of Africa and shaping Africa as a better continent for social-economic transformation.
Rutega who was yesterday officiating at the opening of the 5th National University Creative Arts Expo and Debate championship taking place at Bishop Stuart University cited the xenophobia attacks in South Africa where Africans are killing their own as an example of lack of values as African people.
He said that the youth should now wake up and champion African values that will usher unity and working together, something he noted is a preliquisite to addressing the challenges African continent still faces that include poverty, illiteracy, and underdevelopment.
Rutega hailed the organizers of the event for realizing that the young generation need to be better placed at an edge of shaping the future of the country and Africa in general.
Primus Atukwatse Bahiigi, of Action Aid International that is part of the organisers together with Uganda Dialogue Arena reminded students that the responsibility of solving issues they usually complain about like poverty, excessive authority, unemployment and dictatorship lies in their hands and must demand accountability from those in authority.
Over 200 university students from 20 universities are taking part in this three day 5th National Inter university Creative Arts Expo and Debate championship.
