BUHWEJU DISTRICT WANTS 19 MILLION TEA SEEDLINGS

The Buhweju district leadership has written to NAADs secretariat requesting for 19,143,360 tea seedlings that will be planted by beneficiaries in sub counties and town councils.
According to the letter dated 23rd Feb 2018 signed by the Buhweju district Chief Administrative officer; Nathan Ahimbisibwe, a team within sub counties and town councils has already compiled a number of beneficiary farmers.
The letter indicated that in Burere sub county 1,604 beneficiary farmers are going to plant 10,734,500 tea seedlings, 908 beneficiary farmers in Nyakishana sub county are going to plant 6,768,800 tea seedlings, 372 beneficiary farmers in Engaju sub county are going to plant 353,500 tea seedlings.
Others include; 11 beneficiary farmers in Buhanga sub county are going to plant 142,500 tea seedlings, in Nsiika town council 94 beneficiary farmers are going to plant 457,500 tea seedlings, 91 beneficiary farmers in Rwengwe are going to plant 494,000 tea seedlings and 195610 tea seedlings will be planted by 68 beneficiary farmers in Kashenyi-Kajani town council.
The letter was later received at the National Agricultural Advisory service secretariat on 27th February 2018.

Last year, nursery bed operators in Kigezi and Ankole sub-regions were frustrated over government’s failure to pay for tea seedlings supplied.
Several nursery bed operators blamed government for failing to pay them Shs100 billion for the seedlings they supplied to it under the new tea project.
