Residents in Buhweju are concerned over how bar owners pay some amount of money to security personnel so that they keep operating even during night hours which is against the presidential directives on fighting Covid 19.
Buhweju is a rural and hilly area which has given the security personnel an opportunity to do whatever they want including extorting money from the public.
While talking to www.mknewslink.com reporter on Monday about the alleged bribery by bar owners to security officers, the DISO Darius Kusasira said they have not received any related case adding that if any is reported, they will handle accordingly.
“If you see such officers and such cases, report to us we shall arrest those officers and charge them because it is against the law and puts peoples’ lives at risk,†he said.
Responding to claims that there is famine in Buhweju district, the RDC Peter Bisoborwa refuted the claims adding residents will never die of hunger since many of them engage in crop production.
However, Mr Bisoborwa said as the district, they have not received enough donations from the politicians and well-wishers thus still hindered by limited resources while executing the covid 19 task force activities.
He said currently, they have only 3 vehicles at the district thus giving them hard time to travel to the remote areas of the district especially while implementing the presidential directives majorly on closing down bars and shops that don’t sell food items.
He noted that there is no any Coronavirus case in Buhweju district.
