The lawyer representing Bunyoro Kitara Reparations Agency (BUKITAREPA) has asked court to continue with the hearing of the case it filed against the Attorney general in his absence since he has failed to respond.
BUKITAREPA dragged government to court in 2016 for alleged failure to address the injustices inflicted upon the Banyoro by the colonial administration.
BUKITAREPA’s lawyer, Godfrey Malinga, told court that despite serving government since 2016, the Attorney General has never responded to their suit.
In April last year, Masindi Resident Judge,Albert Rugadya Atwooki had given the Attorney General the last chance to respond to a suit filed by Bunyoro Kitara Reparations Agency-BUKITAREPA or else court would proceed in his absence.
Yesterday Godfrey Malinga the lawyer for BUKITAREPA asked court to proceed with the matter in the absence of the attorney general arguing that the attorney generals office has a number of lawyers wondering why he couldnt be represented.
Malinga explained that the attorney generals office was served since 2016 but he has never responded at all.
In his response, Masindi resident Judge Justice Rugadya Atwooki noted that there is no excuse that the attorney generals office didnt know and they knew they were supposed be in court adding that there is a supreme court session going something that could have failed him to turn up.
Rugadya added that he knows the consequence of matter and he would not continue with matter in the absence of the attorney generals office hence giving the attorney general one more chance saying that if he fails to comply the matter would continue in his absence.
Rugadya adjourned that matter to March 14th 2019.
