BUNDIBUGYO ELDERS URGED TO SUPPORT PACIFICATION EFFORT

BUNDIBUGYO
The elderly have been called up to play a fundamental role in pacifying the communities in which they live.
Mr Albert Musinguzi, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner Bundibugyo says Bundibugyo district and the entire Rwenzori sub-region need the reasoned voices of old persons to guide the young people and caution them against delving in situations that breed conflicts.
Mr Musinguzi, who was speaking at the inception meeting organized by Creations Forum Afrika-CAF to Launch the Ugandans for Peace project, noted that it is high time the elders guided the youth about how best they can live peacefully within the community.
Ugandans for Peace is a USAID-funded project that intends to prevent, mitigate and respond to Political Violence in order to Build Social Cohesion and Promote Peace in Uganda prior, during and after the 2026 general election which CAF will undertake in the districts of Bundibugyo, Kasese, Ntoroko and Bunyangabu.
Musinguzi explains that the Project is very timely especially since Bundibugyo has been entangled in conflict for a long time.
Mr Francis Zaa Balikamanya, the Secretary for Finance and Administration at Bundibugyo District Local Government who represented the district chairperson, concurred with the assistant RDC on the need to support efforts geared towards the realization of sustainable peace in the region.
He, however, implored CAF to ensure the direct involvement of the local community for effective implementation of the project.
Mr Johncation Muhindo, the Team Leader at Creations Forum Afrika intimated that the local non-profit is committed to finding solutions from within the community and will therefore as much possible involve the communities within which they are implementing the project.
