BUNYORO ACTIVISTS OBSERVE GENERAL ELECTIONS WERE UNFAIR

Civil Society Activists in Bunyoro Sub-Region have highlighted a number of issues that marred the recently concluded elections in the nine districts of Bunyoro.
While presenting a preliminary Report on election observation in the Region at Hoima Resort Hotel Activists said Elections were characterized by voter bribery, violence, involvement of security, clashes between supporters of different candidates, vote rigging in some areas among others.
Lawrence Kangura from Mid-Western Center for Democracy in Masindi says there was heavy security deployment, intimidation, total shutdown of the internet, the pre-election environment showed possible outbreak of violence etc.
Kellen Tatweebwa an election observer and Robert Muhangi from RDP Uganda say in districts like Kakumiro and Kikuube violence was witnessed.
In Kakumiro for example supporters of a particular candidate standing on the position of MP reached an extent of burning tyres in the middle of the road.
Ismail Kusemererwa the Executive Director Mid-Western Region Anti-Corruption Coalition MIRAC says they deployed over 150 observers in all the districts including long time and short time observers during polls but many things were realized.
