In Hoima—
Hoima district leaders have described the Bugangaizi East Member of Parliament utterance on women beating as a disgrace to Bunyoro and demanded his public apology.
OnesmusTwinamasiko last week in an interview justified the need for men to ‘panel beat’ their wives by whipping them.
Pius Wakabi, the Member of Parliament for Bugahya County says Twinamasiko’s comment humiliates the entire Bunyoro leadership as they are perceived as promoters of domestic violence.
Tophus KaahwaByagira, the Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima who doubles as secretary for Bunyoro Parliamentary caucus says Twinamasiko’s comment demeans the values and rights of women and should be examined to substantiate it
According to her, any form of physical torture is a criminal act and should not be supported in anyway.
Evassey Munguryeki; the district secretary for gender and community development and Plan Bernadette, the district secretary for planning say Twinamasiko deserves to be reprimanded to defend his statement because domestic violence hampers family development.
Nathan Turaytemba and Marion Ahimbisibwe students at Makerere competent secondary school, however, encourage for peace talks in homes, rather than physical violence saying this has partly fueled school dropouts.
The MP has been a laughing stock on social media for supporting domestic violence.
