Parliament last year approved sh11 billion to compensate tobacco farmers whose tobacco products supplied to Nimatiback, Continental and other companies in 2019 were not paid for .
Rubenson Barongo Atuhairwe, the chairperson for Bunyoro Tobacco farmers Association says they are tired of being hoodwinked by government over the issue.
The former ministry of Finance Planning and Administration Matiya Kasaija recently told the farmers that their funds had been released and channeled through the ministry of Trade and Cooperatives for delivery to the affected farmers.
Alex Asiimwe, from Buhanika says they are ready to demonstrate until the president intervenes wondering why money which was released is not being delivered to them.
Pius Wakabi, the Bugahya county legislature however says he does not know why the money was being delayed yet it was passed by parliament. He has resolved to lead a team of the farmers to meet the ministry of Trade Officials on Wednesday to follow up the issue.
