BUS KNOCKS CYCLIST DEAD IN RUKUNGIRI

Police in Rukungiri are holding a bus driver who knocked a boda boda man and killed him on spot at Mukatindo Rwabingangura along Rukungiri Ntungamo road.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional spokesperson has identified the driver as John Nuwamanya 44 years, a resident of Kinonya cell Masanafu Kampala.

It is alleged that Nuwamanaya who was driving bus registration number UBB785H which belongs to Perfect Company knocked dead Joshua Tumwesigye 47 years a resident of Mutojo cell Kebisoni town council Rukungiri district who riding a motor cycle registration number UEH 532B Bajaj boxer.

According to eye witnesses, the driver who was following the rider knocked him from behind as the rider tried to cross from left to right today 14/02/2022 morning at around 07: 20 am.

Maate confirmed the bus driver is currently detained while the body was taken to Rwakabengo H/ Centre III for postmortem.

He added that the bus involved is at Buyanja police station pending IOV but the motor cycle was not recovered at the scene of accident.

Maate further said that the accident has been registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station under reference number TAR 11 /2022 refer.
