BUSHENYI CAO CONDEMNS TEACHERS’ VICE OF MULTIPLE BORROWINGS

The Bushenyi (Chief Administrative officer) CAO Mahaba Malia has condemned teachers vice of multiple borrowings of money from banks and other money lenders saying that it leads to depression, stress and loses.
Speaking in an opening of third term head teachers meeting held today 18th Sept2019 at Bushenyi municipality multipurpose hall, Mahaba said that most teachers are always putting their properties as collateral to get money hence leading them into losses.
He later advised teachers to only acquire loans in case of financial problems from an interest free banking system of Islamic banking. He warned them of other bad vices like poor time management at school, dodging classes among others.
On the other hand, Mahaba hailed head teachers who work hard for the better performance of their schools and motivated them to love their profession, dress smartly as provided in their professional code of ethics, saying that teaching is one of the most respectable professions in the society therefore, should defend it.
Meanwhile, he also promised an increase of head teachers salaries and their promotion as well which left teachers developing a smile.
On the same issue, he described salaries as wider process which is sub divided into earlier.
According to CAO, paying earliers includes registration of teachers, their identity cards, and other required documents which he blamed as the cause of salary delays.
At the start of previous term, all teachers countrywide entered a peaceful demonstration under their union, Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) claiming their salary increments in not more than a period of 90days following a presidential promise but they were calmed down and promised 42% salary increment of every teacher from the president, His Excellency Y.K Museveni.
On the other hand, the Bushenyi district inspector of schools, Mr. Michael Matiya who was also chairing the meeting has urged head teachers to emphasize on qualitative teaching of their respective stuff but not teaching to pass time.
Matiya added that besides teaching, school head teachers should also emphasize on other co-curricular activities which include; scouting, athletics, games and sports among others where he hailed the head teacher of kyeizooba primary school for the good work done at his school.
