BUSHENYI CHIEF FINANCE OFFICER ARRESTED, TAKEN TO SIU KIREKA OVER STEALING 48M GAVI FUNDS

Special investigations unit of police on Friday Dec. 09, 2016 arrested the mighty chief finance officer for Bushenyi district Abias Asiimwe for stealing 48 million shillings meant for Global Alliance for vaccines to pay services sponsored by the organization.

Abias Asiimwe according to sources was arrested following a tip off by his boss chief administrative officer Mr Elias Byamungu.

The loss of the money was realized after the cashier who was keeping it Cececllia was unable to release cash to staff who worked in the GAVI exercise.

Sources from the district confirmed to www.mknewslink.com editor that the money was removed from the cashier by Abias Asiimwe and  put it into his businesses it has been the case before.

The cashier Cecelia was arrested by Bushenyi police on Thursday last week and since then she is still being held at Bushenyi police up today Monday Dec.12, 2016.

Because the money belonged to the health department, state house health monitoring unit formerly headed by Dr. Diana Atwiine now PS ministry of health took up the matter.

According to credible sources state house monitoring unit initiated the arrest and handed him over to SIU kireka.

Sources add that the two CFO Asiimwe and Cashier Cecelia will be taken to anti-corruption court in Kampala to answer charges of corruption.

Staff Jubilations at Bushenyi district were evident as news trickled in that Abias CFO had been arrested. Many staff who never wanted to be named told www.mknewslink.com editor over the weekend that CFO Abias Asiimwe had become a menace because they would make they genuine claims and then he eats their money.
