As the measles Rubella, Polio Immunisation campaign is ongoing countrywide; the Bushenyi District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Edward Mwesigye has called upon the public and all the concerned people to work together for a successful exercise.
Dr. Mwesigye was speaking to our reporter today 17th Oct.2019 in his office at Bushenyi district headquarters.
He asked the public; parents, guardians, teachers, leaders at various levels and healthy workers to work together as a team to successfully end the exercise that aims at protecting children from immunisable diseases.
Dr. Edward revealed that children of 9 months up to 15 years are to be given measles Rubella vaccine while those of zero up to 5 years are to receive Polio vaccine.
In Bushenyi district, the ongoing country wide measles rubella, polio Campaign successfully started with a launch at Pearl Junior School on Wednesday 16th Oct, and it was witnessed by the district leaders, religious leaders among others.
This country wide activity comes after a number of outbreaks have been reported in 26 districts of Uganda so far, according to Edward.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com, Edward said that in order to reach the targeted number of children (105006), they are visiting schools from 16th Oct up to Friday 18th Oct where a big number is expected.
He added that on Saturday 19th Oct Up to Sunday 20th Oct 2019, they are going throughout healthy facilities, community posts, door to door and even in social gatherings.
Dr.Edward optimistically said that by doing this, every child will get the service.
However, he noted that the public is eagerly bringing their children saying that they haven’t received any pockets of resistance for now.
Measles Rubella, Polio exercise is a government aided campaign that is carried out after every three years.
