Residents in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality have expressed concern on how Garbage collection is handled in the municipality.
The matter was raised in a municipal council meeting held yesterday Tuesday 19/10/2021 at municipal council hall.
Residents complain that the municipal authorities no longer collect garbage and this is likely to result into diseases like cholera, Ebola.
Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality consists of Ishaka, Central and Nyakabirizi divisions.
However, speaking to www.mknewslink.com after the meeting, the mayor Byaruhanga the municipality has no enough money to collect the garbage and they don’t want to over tax citizens.
He however assured www.mknewslink.com that he wants the municipality to be cleaned after bench marking.
The mayor told www.mknewslink.com that every person will be paying for his garbage before it’s dumped since some residents especially hotel owners collect a lot of garbage and it burdens the municipality because it takes up to 45% of taxes collected.
“We shall not collect your garbage again using our money but you will first pay the garbage collectors who will then carry it,” Byaruhanga said.
He revealed that the collected garbage will be dumped only in Kabagarame adding that they will work hand in hand with police and courts of law to deal with big headed people.
