The Bushenyi Uganda Multi-sectoral Food Security and Nutrition Project (UMFSNP) coordinator David Bushenyi district Beinomugisha has showed his ungratefulness to Bushenyi Lead farmers for failing to design exemplary gardens in their homes so as others can learn from them.
Beinomugisha said that a lead farmer should have exemplary gardens with all types of food and at least five types of fruits where other people in the community can learn from.
While speaking today to the Bushenyi lead farmers and lead mothers at Bushenyi Municipal Multipurpose hall, he said that about 30% of lead farmers in the district have gardens that are not to the required standards which will increase malnutrition in children.
In the same function, Grace Namate the Bushenyi health centre IV Nursing officer asked men to always go with their wives to hospitals when they are pregnant because they will come to know what their wives need to eat.
She also advised parents not to always over cook vegetables because they lose food nutrients.
UMFSN Project is being implemented over a period of five years by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries working in a multi-sectoral collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Sports.
MAAIF is the lead implementer of the Project and working in close collaboration with MoES, MoH, and selected District Local Governments.
The project is operating in 100 primary schools and 200 community homes and is aimed at increasing production and consumption of micronutrient-rich foods and utilization of community-based nutrition services in smallholder households in project areas.
