The Bushenyi district council has accused the veterinary department of corruption following an outbreak of foot and mouth in the area.
Councilors say that some of the butcheries have been closed while others are freely working as if Foot and Mouth does not affect them.
The councilors raised the concern yesterday 27th Feb.2021 during a meeting held at the district chambers.
According to Mathias Mbebembire Kakoni the district councilor for Kyamuhunga, the veterinary officers are just gearing the spread of the disease instead of controlling it since they close butcheries in some areas leaving others in the neighborhood open.
“How can you put Kyamuhunga under quarantine and leave out Bitooma,” Mathias wondered.
Silagi Banyanga the district councilor for Ishaka division alleged that the quarantine benefits only the veterinary officers and some few butchers since it is full of personal interests.
Jaffari Bassajjabalaba the district chairman requested the veterinary department to work with RDC and security people in controlling this disease.
“We need security people, if it needs to put road blocks to stop people from moving cattle crossing areas under quarantine, we do exactly that,” Jaffari noted
